| You've been nominated for a Grammy, won a Dove award, been on the cover of magazines, toured with Pillar, wowed audiences across the USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand...what's left for Day of Fire to do?
While its true that Day of Fire has pummeled much of the earth with our radiclysmic rock and roll (yeah, that’s right, I combined radical and cataclysmic—normal words can’t describe the rock that we dish out on a regular basis), there is still much left to do for Day of Fire. We are always looking for great tours to get on. We are trying to do more mainstream shows in clubs and bars because we feel like that is part of our vision—to go into the places where people are broken and searching, providing them with high caliber rock and most importantly, a love that normally may not infiltrate those darker places.
Your tour schedule is intense. What do you guys do to chill out on the road?
We make stupid video blogs for fun. You can check them out on our page, www.myspace.com/dayoffire, under the blog section. We also sleep, watch movies, read paperback romance novels, and make each other laugh with stupid jokes. I was just joking about the paperback romance novels--we actually prefer the “choose your own adventure” paperback novels.
What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you onstage?
One time when we were playing Parachute Festival in New Zealand, Josh lost his footing while he was up on a box and fell off. It made a loud thud in our monitors and we all looked up to find him flat on his back. He ended up being fine, but it was pretty embarrassing.
Do you guys practice head-banging?
Yes… No, wait… No. Ok, maybe.
How do your families handle you being on the road so much?
They are very supportive and loving. We could not do this if they were not. However, it is definitely a challenge to be away from family so often.
If you had to choose a song that described your life, what would it be?
Joe’s pick: “God’s Little Rocker” by Alabaster Box
Zach’s pick: “All My Life” by Foo Fighters
Josh’s pick: “Zanadu” by Olivia Newton John
Gregg’s pick: “Blew” by Nirvana
Chris’s pick: “Rocky Racoon” by The Beatles
What's on the cards for DoF in 07?
We are looking forward to rocking AGMF in Australia! We are also writing a lot of new music.
Describe your new album "Cut and Move" in five words.
Earth Pummeling Rock and Roll
Do your wives pick out your stage clothes?
No, which is probably why we look like huge dorks half the time.
In a nutshell, tell us how Day of Fire started.
Our lead singer Josh used to be in a band called Full Devil Jacket. He had all the successes of the world: money, a big record deal, and lots of drugs. After overdosing on drugs, Josh found himself searching for hope in God. He was miraculously healed of his drug addiction through an encounter with God. Josh took a couple of years off from music to be with his family. His wife encouraged him to get back into music and that is when he started Day of Fire with Gregg Hionis in Jackson, TN. Shortly thereafter, Chris Pangallo, Joe Pangallo, and Zach Simms joined the band and the rest is history.
What do you see as being the ministry aspect of DoF?
We want to go into the world and love people, especially those who would not normally step foot inside a church building or church event. We also want to encourage Christians to go into the dark places with us to show the world the love that its people desperately need.
Do you have one cool story of a life being changed at one of your concerts?
We recently played a show where the promoter had become a Christian at one of our shows two years ago. It was neat to see things come around full circle because now this guy is putting on rock shows with Christian bands at bars in Alabama.
Chris, what's it like having your brother in the band?
Well, Joe and I have been brothers for a long time, since birth…actually, since Joe’s birth. We’ve always been close growing up so it is nice to have someone like that with you all the time on the road, which can be a challenging environment.
What else do you want to tell the gals of Australia and USA?
Keep your eyes glued to our myspace and webpage. Very soon we will be asking for fans to join our street team. This street team will give you an opportunity to be part of the DoF Family and help us get the word out about new music, shows in your area and any other rock and roll info we need to spread to the masses.
One more thing, to ALL of God’s little rockers out there, thanks for being great fans, you are all princesses and we love you.
